The wedding - Part 2

<PART 2>

Posts are spaced out because we need to get stuff done around the house, ie. clean the rat cages, eat, etc.

Jackie, Addison and I walked from the court house to the tea shop. To save myself some mental energy, I’ll quote my mother:

There I am behind the counter in the tearoom and I look up to see 3 people coming in. I say outloud…Oh, look, there is Jackie(Kaytlyn’s bestest friend), and there is Kaytlyn, hmm…and um, Addison…and um, Addison is wearing a suit(scratches head). Then in the same second I am saying all of this my little wheels in my head are spinning and I am thinking..um, no one died….ooh my!! they got married!!

After Mum reacted so well, everything else sort of paled in comparison. However, there was one thing I knew I had to do right away, and that was call my father in Victoria, BC. Well, he was nearly impossible to get a hold of! I left a message at his house, I called his work and his cell, and still no answer!

“Umm, Kaytlyn,” says Mum, “You’re calling your father from the tea shop phone. He has caller ID, you know. He probably thinks I’m trying to call him - and do you really think he’ll want to pick up?” Dur. So I called back and left messages saying it was me, and pick up the phone. He finally answers on his way from the massage therapist to his motorcycle.

“Congratulations,” says he. Pause. “What the hell’d you go do that for??” He was just joking, though. Told me I did it the right way, eloping: both stress-wise and financially. So that was good.

We then waited until my step-dad, Patrick, came to the tea shop. He walked in around 5 pm. “Look who’s here!” called Mum. There was nobody else in the shop at that point. “Do you know why he’s dressed that way?” she asks, motioning towards Addison.
“Well, either he had a job interview, or he’s got a job,” he says matter-of-fact-ly. Silly Patrick. “OR they got married, heh heh.”
“They got married,” said Mum.
Poor Patrick! He just sort of sat down and didn’t know what to say. Mum frowned.
“Say something,” she said.
“Something.”
Deep sigh from Mum. “Say something nice.”
“Something nice.”
“Say you’re happy for them!”
“…Yes.”

Lots of lawls. They were both happy for us, though. Patrick said what most people have been saying: that we’re well suited to each other. Imagine! I was very pleased with their reactions.

We were running behind schedule, however, due to the delays at the courts and waiting for Patrick. Our intention had been to be in Lakeville to see Addison’s family by 5 pm, but clearly that wasn’t happening. And little did we know that the real fun was yet to come.

Coming up: Dark Clouds, Lightning and Mars Bars!
