Ugh, I’m still so worn out. I don’t know how long it’s going to take my body to adjust to being up at the crack of dawn, but I hope it’s soon! I’ve been dragging my butt all morning.
I received an email from health physics this morning, reminding me that I failed to give a urine sample when I started work last week. Policy is that even if you don’t work in an irradiated area, you need to submit a urine sample once a month to monitor tritium dosage (or lack thereof). So I asked my supervisor where I need to go to do that.
“Well,” he says, “every pay day they bring the sample bottles right here into the STOIC building…”
“I need to get it done ASAP,” I say, “or so says my email.”
“Oh, well, it’s a bit of a trek, then; the nearest bathroom with the sample bottles is down in the Admin building, upstairs.”
Uck. He says it’s alright, so I wander down to the Admin building to give my sample. Now, the Admin building leads straight to the secure areas, so I need to go through security. They’ve got a new…thing…alcove you need to walk through. It’s a chemical sniffer, I think. ANYway, they haven’t been online since I started here, so I walked through it.
IT BLASTED AIR JETS OVER ME.
Scared the CRAP right out of me. I’ll tell you one thing; I’m awake now.
So I went and gave my sample. No big. I get back to the STOIC building and am sitting for no more than ten minutes when they make the announcement that they’re going to be testing the fire alarms. Oh, joy. Three minutes later:
RINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
For THREE FULL MINUTES. Once again, I am awake.
ETA: I have been working off my supervisor’s laptop since I started last Wednesday. We’ve been waiting for IT to send up a computer. The department guy responsible for IT liason stopped my supervisor on the way out of our noon department meeting.
“No word on Kaytlyn’s computer yet. When we find it, we’ll let you know.”
Find it?? It’s in a position that it needs to be found?? I mean, what, is there some poor sap sitting there with two computers on his/her desk, and just hasn’t noticed? LAWL.
Also, apparently urine samples can be done in the new SOAP building right next to this building. Oy.

Wow, it’s almost like you gave the urine sample, right there with the air jets.
I totally forgot to call you guys on the weekend (which looked pretty full anyhow).
Man, I totally did! The security guard looked pretty amused at my facial expression, LAWL.
D’oh! Well, Addison told me he emailed Ron to say that we were going to be there for the long weekend (which I totally forgot about). Will you guys be in Hartland by then? Is it next weekend - the 19, 20 and 21?
Yeah, Ron told me over lunch. I dunno if we’ll be here or there that weekend. I barely know what I’m doing this week.
I’ll be sure to let you guys know for sure before then, though.
