Dat’s right, I’m cool

So today I got the results of my ‘Acuplacer’ test back, which is just some dumb test you take so they can tell you if you are stupid and then suggest ‘remedial help’. I got mine after about 20 other people, so I was looking their scores. The test was divided into three parts- two english parts and a math part. we glanced at each other’s scores. . .92, 93, 98, 73, 88. . . and then one guy got 102 on one of his English parts. We all wondered how the heck you can get a 102, but then it was my turn.

I got 96, 104, and 112. I laughed.

We were also finally given a programming assignment early yesterday, for our VB class. Today we got to use our class time as lab time to work on it, which amounted to about two hours.

There were three parts. The first one was just following some instructions in the textbook to make a form with all these fancy buttons and stuff. The second one was a console application in which we had to take input from the user (an integer) and convert it into the area and circumference of a circle. I was able to do all that in 5 lines of code. Which is wicked awesome. At one point I had two other very intelligent guys my age, each with a bit of prior programming experience, huddle around my laptop and admire it. They then said things like “It’s so clean-looking” and “how did you do it in 5 lines?”. It was just more confirmation for me that I’ll be a great programmer. w00t-sauce.

The third one is harder. I only got it half done. It’s another console application, but this time there are five user imputes and I have to figure out which one is the largest and which one is the smallest and display that. I know how to do it, I just didn’t get that far. I had four people ask me ‘wtf?’ in regards to it, so I gave them each a slightly different hint. I’m supposed to write pseudo code for it too, but I’ll do that after :P. Get it? Also, we’re only allowed to use If statements, which is very annoying, since I think a loop would be much more efficient.

We also had another math class. This time we did binary multiplication. I only had to correct him once or twice.

Oh and that phonetic alphabet? We had a quiz on it today. Most people got only half of them right, including me. I don’t need no darn phonetic alphabet.
Then I got a lot of stuff done at the bank and mall. I bought more clothes, got some checks, got a haircut, and asked about transferring money from my old bank account. For some reason bank tellers are always so surprised when I use such large numbers.

Dude, SWEET on the test scores. I know I say they don’t mean a thing, but it sure is nice to have high scores on ‘em. :D
I’m impressed with the coding. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I bet Dad would want to see it. ;) (How do you write psuedo code? Must get Dad to explain that bit to me.)

And “we’re only aloud” should be “allowed”. Doh.

Yay on the haircut. I wondered if you could hold out to Thanksgiving.

When’s a good time to call this weekend? Emma has wanted to talk to you at least three times this week.

Well why didn’t you call then? Any time is a good time after lunch on saturday.
Psuedo code is that stuff you write out on paper before you start the program. It’s supposed to make it easier I guess. You can also do flowcharts and stuff but they’re kinda just gay.

flowcharts are wonderful tools! You can use them to explain things to non programmers.

Pseudo ;) code comes in handy as well.

Wish you hadn’t told me about your coding problem, now I’m trying to solve it while I’m supposed to be writing other programs!
